What Is TMS Therapy?

TMS stands for ‘transcranial magnetic stimulation.’ TMS is an FDA-approved depression and OCD treatment that treats symptoms at its source. TMS uses a magnetic coil that stimulates the area of the brain affected by depression or OCD. Over a short period of time, TMS restores the functioning of under-active neurons so that you can enjoy a better quality of life.

Is TMS Right For Me?

TMS may be right for you if you agree with two or more:

  • Depression or OCD symptoms have interfered with my daily life.

  • I am not satisfied with the results I get from medication.

  • I have had or worry about side effects from depression or OCD medications.

  • I have switched medications for depression due to side effects.

  • I am interested in a proven, non-drug therapy for depression or OCD.

While depression or OCD medications work for many people, some people still do not feel relief. For hard to treat symptoms where medication is not giving you adequate relief, TMS is a proven, safe depression treatment option.

Testimonials

  • "Great facility and always made me feel welcome. I've struggled with anxiety depression for most of my life and medication either didn't work and made it worse or I just had to deal with the horrible side effects of them. Ever since I went through treatment I've found so much joy in doing things I never really cared for and just feel overall happier. If you're on the fence about going through with the treatment I would!"

  • "The staff and the process at palmier tms were truly above and beyond. From my initial assessment with Jason to my continuing treatments with Tracy, I felt comfortable and confident that I would be well taken care of. I cannot recommend highly enough, this truly changed my life for the better."

  • "As someone who has dealt with depression and being on and off anti depressants since the age of 14 I was skeptical. Worried this wouldn't work. I wasn't entirely sure I wanted to even try, until I spoke to Jason about it. After our conversation I thought what do I really have to lose? Halfway through the treatment I couldn't believe how much in general my outlook on things changed. Now that I've completed the treatment entirely I feel I have hope. Hope that I no longer have to rely on medication any more. Even if I start to fall back, they offer maintenance which is great! I'm so happy with the decision I made to do this. For anyone on the fence to try this, or isn't sure... it's worth it."

  • "Palmier was awesome. I called several other clinics before them and no one had the courtesy to call me back, but I'm glad I finally found them. Super attentive, very flexible with my schedule, fantastic location, and my results were incredible. When I first met with them, they said some patients commented that the sky seems more blue and the grass seems greener. They were so right! Best thing I have done to improve my quality of life in a long time. I would definitely recommend Palmier to anyone considering TMS as a treatment option."

  • "I've been dealing with Depression and anxiety for years. I became suicidal and tried many antidepressants including Ketamine. I couldn't sleep and I was failing fast. I was afraid of TMS at first but I took a leap of faith and tried it at Palmier TMS in Chesterfield. I interviewed with a few different TMS businesses and Palmier was the most up to date and innovative business. That means everything to me. I had the 3 minute treatments on my lunch break from work. After just two weeks I was falling asleep and staying asleep. It was truly life changing for me. I'm dealing with the bad days so much better. The treatment specialist, Stacy, helped me through the whole thing. She knew everything about TMS, the mild fatigue, and she became a very good friend to me. She's just the best!"

    — Toni DePriest
  • "The staff is awesome, they treated me just like family from the second I called to make an initial consultation. I'm from St. Louis but have lived on the West Coast for years where TMS is much more common. So when I looked into doing TMS here locally. This place was an easy choice is it put wellness and calm as priority. it is so relaxed and the main focus is my comfort and best results possible. It changed all my outlook and the treatments made my quality of life improve in just a matter of weeks. Having a positive attitude throughout the treatment makes a huge difference. I recommend to anyone dealing with depression this is team and treatment for you!"

Is TMS Covered By My Insurance

Plus Icon

Yes! Palmier accepts all major insurance, including Medicare and Medicaid. The best part is almost every insurance plan has reduced their prequalifying criteria from just a few years ago. Now, instead of requiring 4 failed anti-depressants, most plans are down to just 2 and Medicare is down to 1. Best of all, Palmier can get your out-of-pocket cost TO THE PENNY with just a quick phone call.

What Is TMS Therapy

TMS stands for ‘transcranial magnetic stimulation’. TMS is an FDA-approved depression and OCD treatment that treats depression at its source. TMS uses a magnetic coil that stimulates the production of neurotransmitters (mood chemicals). Over a short period of time, TMS restores the functioning of underactive neurons so you can enjoy a better quality of life.

Who Can Get TMS Treatments

Plus Icon

Most people we consult with are qualified for TMS. There are very few conditions that would prevent someone from getting TMS. Generally, metal in and around the head can (but not always) present a treatment issue.

What Are TMS Treatments Like?

Plus Icon

The paddle which delivers the TMS is positioned on the left front side of the head. You will hear a clicking sound and feel a tapping sensation on your head when the magnetic pulses are delivered (feels like a TENS unit). Most patients play on their phone or watch television during treatment. Our patients tell us they get used to the treatment right away and are able to concentrate on other things during their TMS sessions.

What is the success rate and how long do the results last?

Plus Icon

TMS in general, has a success rate of over 70%. Our patients see a success rate of over 75%, which is due in part to our psychiatrists’ training and familiarity with TMS and knowledge of what medications should be reduced or eliminated before beginning TMS and because of our encouragement to use the time commitment of TMS to make other changes in their lifestyle and routine, like diet and exercise and eliminating toxic conditions in their life like work/life balance and relationship stress.

TMS results are also very robust. If our patients return for subsequent rounds of TMS, they usually return 18 to 24 months later. We rarely have a patient seek additional treatment in less than 12 months of treatment.
